AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER

R and Company

17 November 2020 – January 2021

64 WHITE STREET

Gold Pour Circle, 2019. Gold leaf, gesso, on cedar panel. 36 x 25 in.

R & Company is pleased to present AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER, an exhibition that re-envisions an unfulfilled 2020 fair season and seeks to recapture the optimism, excitement, and communal spirit of the fair experience.

For more than two decades, R & Company has participated in leading international art and design fairs that provide a platform to exhibit talented artists, present groundbreaking design and historical masterworks, reach new audiences, and share with a global community of artists, gallerists, collectors, curators, and enthusiasts. Fairs have become essential partners in the development of the design community, helping in its success and advancement.

While the unprecedented events of this year have impeded the physical fair experience, they have highlighted all the more the importance of personal interaction and the element of discovery. AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER aims to bring that back and recreate the synergy between the artist’s work, the viewer, and the fair setting, emphasizing the importance of collectible design today.

This November, the gallery’s 64 White Street location will be transformed into a world of fairs that brings together three of the gallery’s 2020 fair booths, presented as individual spaces within a singular location. TEFAF, Salon | Art + Design, and Design Miami/ booths will be simultaneously installed, collapsing time and space and showcasing each individual fair’s unique and distinct identity. Each booth will feature a curated selection of important contemporary and historical works by Bae Se Hwa, Hun Chung Lee, Jeff Zimmerman, James Mongrain, Joaquim Tenreiro, Johnny Swing, Jon Brooks, José Zanine Caldas, Joyce Lin, Katie Stout, Nancy Lorenz, Pierre Yovanovitch, Roberto Burle Marx, Rogan Gregory, Sam Maloof, Serban Ionescu, Sérgio Rodrigues, The Haas Brothers, and Wendell Castle.

In addition, the R & Company Archives will present a selection of maquettes documenting the creation of R & Company’s booths over the last 20 years, as well as images from the fairs, highlighting their integral and celebrated role within the gallery’s history.
